Code.org Kicks Off Third Annual Hour of Code Initiative

For the third year in a row, the non-profit Code.org is promoting the Hour of Code this week as a way to get more kids interested in programming. This year’s campaign is enlisting the support of pro athletes like Kobe Bryant, the Golden State Warriors Draymond Green, Serena Williams, soccer players from from Real Madrid C.F. and the Seattle Storm’s Sue Bird. “These athletes are role models for students globally and will help reinforce the diversity results of Code.org’s work,” Code.org founder Hadi Partovi said.

More than 300 million students have taken part in Hour of Code events and have written more than 20 billion lines of code. Partovi noted, “An Hour of Code doesn’t prepare a student for a job, but it opens their mind about what they could be when they grow up, and that can make all the difference.”
